 A View From The PAS

If you wish to send a card, letter or flowers to “Big” George Gervais, please send them to him c/o Tim Huver, 11258 58th Street, Mira Loma, CA  91752…  It was a rough night of racing at The PAS four weeks ago.  Everyone was saddened and a little shocked by what had happened during the night.  However, a young lady named Casie Leann Kruseman eased some of the pain and put smiles back on the faces of many as she made her first appearance on The PAS podium with her proud “Pop”…  Incidentally, Casie’s Dad, Cory, topped the voting for the second installment of the 2001 National Non Wing Sprint Car Poll.  Richard “The Gassman” Griffin was second in the poll.  There are 12 voters on the panel and Kruseman got 10 of the first place votes.  The other two first place votes went to USAC point leader Dave Darland…      Mike Kirby certainly is a multi talented driver.  On August 1st, he won the Figure “8” main at the Ventura Raceway.  Three nights later, he won the SCRA main at the Thunderbowl in Tulare…  Kirby won the Figure “8” main, but his teammate, “Super” Rickie Gaunt, and the “Wildman” Rodney Argo, failed to transfer to the Pony Stock main event.  Hint!  You two had better stick to Sprint Cars…  Be sure to check out the new and improved SCRA website at www.scra.com… Advance tickets for the 6th Annual Budweiser/Temecula Valley Pipe and Supply Oval Nationals are on sale now at The PAS souvenir stand every race or by calling (909) 940-0134.  This years Oval Nationals will be November 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  The first two nights will see the return of the popular Twin 20 lap main events.  Each night, the first 20 lap main will start straight up with the fastest cars in the front.  The second 20 lapper will see the field completely inverted by the finishing order from the first one.  Remember 1996 when Rip Williams won the first 20 lapper and then started dead last in the second 20 lapper before coming to the front for the win?  That was one of the most memorable nights of racing at The PAS.  A three-day pass for the event is $45.00, which is a $9.00 savings over buying separate admissions each night.  By the way, all seating is General Admission…  Gene Cowherd, owner of the red #48 that Tony Jones won a number of main events in including last years Oval Nationals and the Sokola Classic in 2001, has put his entire racing operation up for sale…  While talking of the defending Oval Nationals Championship team, what will Jones be driving in this year’s Oval Nationals???    Brian Venard wanted to publicly thank sponsors Marty & Diane and fellow SCRA driver Mike English for getting him back on the track after his crash on the Midwest portion of the NWWC Tour…  The USAC Midget Turkey Night Grand Prix belongs on dirt.  No slight against the beautiful Irwindale Speedway, but this race has a rich DIRT TRACK racing tradition.  Before the 1990s, it was run on pavement one time and that was due to a landlord/promoter squabble in the mid-1970s… Did you know that Rip Williams and former Speedway Motorcycle superstar Alan Christian were in the same class in school as kids???
