Albuquerque, NM....July 13.......Continuing his great 2002 season in his Big Dog Chassis, Richard Johnson won Saturday night's dirt modified main event at Duke City Raceway with Ford powered Bo Martinez second over Bobby Bachechi. Unwinged Sprint Car point leader Tom Ball was the feature winner in their 20 lap feature after taking the lead on lap 15. Steve Nix ran second over Bo Baker. The dirt late models had the third point leader to win a feature on this night as Robert Schorr gained wins in both the heat and main event. Jim Aragon was second. Steve Bonesteel beat Jeff Whyman and the winner's son J R Bonesteel in the hobby stock feature. With his fifth place run, Ron Leathem Jr moved into the season point lead with just a 4 point margin on incoming point leader Ronnie Bell, who ran 15th.

The dirt modifieds had a 21 car turnout. Heat winners were Johnson, Butch Reid and Mark Seifried. In the feature, it was Johnson on top with Martinez second over Bachechi, John Tanner, Aztec long tow Taylor Yazzie, James Lynch and California transplant Mark McClarran. Johnson built his huge track point lead as closest challenger Toby Herring was 13th and dropped 84 points back of Johnson. Arizona's Max Sadler joined the action for the first time in 2002. The unwinged sprint cars had a 17 car turnout. Kelly Denison beat Ron King in heat 1 with West on top of  Duane Taylor in heat 2. Early season point leader Joe Larkin Jr won heat 3 over Miles Merritt and Ball. Ball outran Nix, Baker, King, West, Blaine Harvey and Denison in the feature. With the Duke City point system, Ball is 42 points ahead of Larkin, who ran 9th. Merritt was 15th and and is just 2 points ahead of Baker in their third place duel.

The 8 car turnout for the dirt late models found Schorr and Aragon also 1-2 in the heat race. Jim Willis ran third in both the heat and feature with Carlos Dorcas fourth in the main ahead of Marc Herrera and Avie Chavez III. Schorr's point lead is 22 over double division racer Willis. The 19 hobby stocks were divided into three heat races and several of teams continue to use a second driver for the heat action. J R Bonesteel won the first heat over Ronald Yates. James Mickle and Randall Trujillo were 1-2 in heat 2 and Bell won the third heat over Leathem and Phil York. Both of the top 2 feature runners use female drivers for the heat action as Suzanne Bonesteel drove the feature winning car to 3rd in her heat with Audrey Whyman 4th in that same race. In the main event, it was S Bonesteel on top of Whyman, J R Bonesteel, R Trujillo, Leathem Jr, Robert Kapinski, April Trujillo and York.
