Ariaz Holds Off Holloway For Victory
by Debbie Shipherd

Tracy, Ca. Aug.16...Pat Ariaz of Manteca held off Scott Holloway's persistant pressure
in Saturday night's Holloway Brothers sponsored feature, leading wire to wire in another awesome caution free race on Altamont Raceway Park's fun 1/2 mile paved track. This was Ariaz's third feature win in his Steve's Construction sprinter at Altamont, and his third sweep in the pavement series action of the NCMA traveling club. While Ariaz leads in the
asphalt points competition, TBS's Scott Holloway is a close second, and continues to lead the point battle in both the dirt track and in overall combined points. With the next four scheduled races being double point races, the competition will be exciting to watch.

Fast qualifier Scott Holloway won the first 8 lap heat race in another quick caution free race, followed by RPM's Russ Wullenwaber and Western Tile's Keith Shipherd. Pat Ariaz won the second heat with "Dr." Don Hicks and the "Flying Farmer" Ed Amador close behind. Tonight featured the first return to pavement racing this season by veteran racer Leon Holloway, who ran smoothly all night in his "old blue", and fittingly this race was sponsored by his grandsons Joey, Manuel, and Michael, who added another $200 to the purse.

In a quick glimpse behind the scenes before tonight's race, the Holloway team was busy replacing a broken rear end, the Shipherd team after a motor change the week before, spent hours removing a broken bolt in front of the crank, and the Wullenwabers were in the midst of a move to a new house and were barely able to locate racing gear. Kudos to the dedicated crews who help them all during the week in the garage as well as on race days!

With a pleasant summer breeze cooling everyone off, the feature began with Pat Ariaz on the pole and Scott Holloway right beside him. At the green the pair rocketed off side by side with Ariaz inching ahead coming out of turn four. TBS's Scott Holloway pressured relentlessly, but Ariaz held fast. Ed Amador maintained a solid third with several close challenges being made by Don Hicks. At the checkers, it was Steve's Construction Ariaz, TBS's Holloway, Ed Amador, Don Hicks, and RPM's Wullenwaber in the top five. Congratulations to all for another fun, clean and safe night of racing.

On a more personal note, all of the NCMA teams would like to convey their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Buddy Cox. Buddy, the Chief Steward at Chowchilla Speedway, passed away last week, and we mourn the loss of one of our racing family. The NCMA will be racing again on Friday, August 22 at Chowchilla Speedway. Have fun, drive safe, and take care.
