STANBROUGH WINS AGAIN!

Thirty-one sprint cars were unloaded to see if anyone had anything for Jon Stanbrough. Jeff Bland, Jr. came from his sixth place starting position to win the first heat race while Jon Sciscoe, Ty Deckard, and Coleman Gulick took the other three tickets to the feature.

Jimmy Light took the second heat, also the outside first row starting position.

Jesse Cramer won his heat race, also from the outside row one starting position; and Chris Babcock came from a fifth place starting position to notch a second place finish.

Nobody appeared to be surprised when Jon Stanbrough came from his third place starting position to win the final heat race. Dickie Gainses, Bobby Stines, and Danny Holtsclaw won the final three spots.

In the “B” feature, John Memmer took the lead at the drop of the green flag and held it until the white flag fell. Lance Grimes slipped past Memmer and took the win. Memmer was forced to settle for second. Bub Cummings and Ryan Tusing took the final two spots in the feature.

As the green flag waved to start the feature in an attempt to get at least 13 green flag laps in the book before the rains came., Danny Holtsclaw tangled with Kevin Chambers and Coleman Gulick. He got upside down. There was, of course, a complete restart; and young Chris Babcock. For a couple of laps it seemed as if Chris might garner his overdue first feature win on the red clay. However, the proverbial elephant in the room in the form of the black #53 appeared from his fourth place starting position to take the lead on lap four. Chris actually kept Stanbrough within range for several laps.

On lap ten points leader Jeff Bland, Jr. passed Chris to take second. At that point, Stanbrough had a full straightaway’s lead. However, on lap 17 Bland spun in turn four and landed on top of a marker tire. This obviously put a kink in his efforts to take another feature win.. Bobby Stines became the beneficiary of Bland’s misfortune and inherited second place. On the 24th circuit, Safety-Kleen sprint car rookie Jesse Cramer passed Babcock to take third place. Babcock held on to salvage a fourth place finish. Jon Sciscoe rounded out the top five.

Ethan Barrow made his first appearance on the red clay. He finished seventh in his heat race and 13th in the “B” feature.

Also new to Bloomington Speedway was Logan Hupp of Columbus. Last season Logan raced AMSA mini sprints; and moved up to sprint cars this season. Last night he finished seventh in his heat race and ninth in the “B” feature.
