A total of 32 sprint cars were unloaded to compete for Safety-Kleen sprint car feature win.
Danny Holtsclaw came from his outside second row starting position to win the first heat race followed by pole starter Geoff Dodge. Cole Whitt came from back to take third; and Dakoda Armstrong picked up the final ticket to the feature.
Chad Boat, son of Indianapolis 500 veteran Billy Boat, came from his fifth place starting position to win the second heat race. Jeff Bland, Jr. came from dead last to take second and qualify for the redraw. Lance Grimes and Chris Babcock took the final two transfer spots.
The initial draw put Jon Stanbrough on the outside of the front row to start his heat race. Most of the other drivers would be quick to point out that Stanbrough would be the last guy present to need any good luck. However, he had the luck; and he won the heat race.. Jared Fox, Jon Sciscoe, and John Memmer picked up the final three transfers.
In the final heat, Brad Sweet came from his fourth place starting position to win the final heat race. Ty Deckard, Jimmy Light, and A.J. Felker took the other three transfers to the feature. This was Felker's first visit to Bloomington Speedway in some time; and he always adds excitement to the program.
The heat races left a lot of very good drivers battling for one of the four transfer spots from the "B" feature. It came as no surprised when Dickie Gaines came from his 11th place starting position to win the "B". Arin McIntosh started on the pole and held off everyone except Gaines to finish second. Kenny Carmichael and Joe Roush took the final two transfer spots. Roush is another driver who has been absent from Bloomington Speedway for a very long time; and it was good to have him back with us.
The redraw put Jared Fox, Chad Boat, Jeff Bland, Jr., Geoff Dodge, Jon Stanbrough, Brad Sweet, Danny Holtsclaw, and Ty Deckard at the front of the feature. A first lap shunt left John Memmer and Lance Grimes deep in the infield and left Ty Deckard setting facing the wrong way on the track. Gaines, McIntosh, and Felker wound up in the work area; but they were able to restart the feature. Deckard, Memmer, and Grimes' cars were too badly damaged to continue. All three drivers exited their cars under their own steam; but Deckard was given a complementary trip in the ambulance for a precautionary examination,
When the race restarted Chad Boat took the lead followed by Jared Fox and Jeff Bland, Jr. On the third lap, Dodge passed Bland to take third. On the fifth lap Jon Stanbrough passed Dodge and Fox to take second. While he was in second place, Boat, unfettered by traffic, had pulled away to about a half lap lead. For a while it looked as if Boat might be able to hang on to the lead long enough to put his first Bloomington Speedway feature win in the record books. Even though the reace went flag to flag under the green, Stanbrough continued to eat up the space between his mount and Boat's. On lap 16 Stanbrough passed Boat to take the lead. He started pulling away from Boat at the same time that Boat was pulling away from Jeff Bland, Jr. At that point it became a battle for fourth. And Dickie Gaines prevailed, winning hard charger honors in the bargain. Danny Holtsclaw, Brad Sweet, Jon Sciscoe, Jared Fox, Jimmy Light, and Kenny Carmichael rounded out the top ten.
