CSRA 360 Sprint cars came to Sacramento Raceway on May 7th for their first race at Sacramento for the 2004 series. It was a beautiful day under blue skies with a beautifully prepared ¼ mile clay track. 10 cars were present. There were 2 heat races, a trophy dash and a main event. Sam Fries was the main event winner. The race of the night happened to be the trophy dash where Scott Pierson was victorious for his first ever trophy dash win. Heat races were 5 cars.

Sam Fries was 1st place, Scott Pierson 2nd and Jacob Serven 3rd in the first heat. In heat two Billy Garcia, Don Emery, and Dave Emery Sr. finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively. CSRA 360 sprint cars put on a spectacular trophy dash. Scott Pierson in the front row along with Don Emery on the outside, Sam Fries and Billy Garcia picking up the rear. During the second lap in the trophy dash, Billy Garcia swerved and hit the back wall. Don Emery made contact and a red flag came out. The resumption of the race, with Emery and Garcia vacant, was Fries and Pierson proceeding to put on the remainder of the trophy dash, trading positions in every corner. Pierson leading, Fries passing, Pierson passing him back on the final lap coming into the checkered flag, Fries bicycled high in turn 3, Pierson pitched and dove low and brought home his first trophy dash victory. Spectacular race.

During the 360 Sprint car main event, Scott Pierson lined them up in the pole position, leading the race for the first 16 circuits, Fries was second followed by Serven and Garcia. Coming into lap traffic and bunched in turns 3 and 4, Fries made contact with Pierson, yellow flag, Pierson returned to the track after repairing a flat tire. Fries took over the lead. Pierson made an exciting run from the rear of the field, with Sam Fries taking the checkered flag for Sacramento’s first CSRA 360 feature event followed by Billy Garcia, Jacob Serven, Dave Emery Sr., Mark Orr, Scott Pierson, new comer Mike Enos, veteran Ed Zimmerman, and Tom Enos of Sacramento. The main even was fast and furious. Doug Emery wasn’t able to make the repairs for the main event. It was a spectacular night of racing on the nicely prepared ¼ mile dirt oval. After the races, all the drivers and crews expressed how much fun they had at the track racing at Sacramento Raceway and being together with all their friends and competitors. CSRA’s sprint cars are looking forward to the next event, May 21st at Sacramento Raceway Park for the 3rd race of the CSRA 2004 point championship.

CSRA officials have noted that the point’s fundraiser drive has already established $3000.00 towards the championship fund. We’re looking forward to and hoping that the competitors will soon join.
