Exciting three-division show on tap for Thunderbowl Raceway this Saturday night April 11
By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – April 7, 2009…The Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway will return to action this Saturday night with the first of three triple-division events on deck over the next few months featuring the Golden State Challenge 410 Winged Sprint Car Series, Bandit 360 Wingless Sprint Series and the Western States Modifieds.

Following a very successful World of Outlaw event last month that saw amazing racing over the two-nights of competition, this weekend is expected to be just as entertaining with three exciting forms of dirt track racing that will surely please everyone's palate.

Headlining the evening will be the Golden State Challenge King of California Series, which will be in action at the Thunderbowl Raceway on four different occasions for this third straight year this season. The traveling organization is considered to be the premier winged sprint car series on the west coast and features an action packed 24 race schedule that stretches around Northern California and into Oregon.

Coming into Tulare with momentum after his win last Saturday in Antioch is Los Angeles, CA's Tyler Walker, who had a tremendous season last year at the Thunderbowl. The always entertaining driver won a Golden State Challenge Series main event at the 1/3 mile clay oval in May of last year and also scored a pair of runner-ups in GSC competition at the track.

Walker also raced his SC Motorsports No. 24 sprinter to wins during the first two nights of the Trophy Cup last year and when the World of Outlaws invaded Tulare a few weekend's ago he charged to a fourth place finish in the main event on opening night. His win last Saturday marked his sixth career Golden State Challenge Series victory and he'll look to do it again this weekend at a track he's been very successful at in recent memory.

Two-time & defending King of California Jonathan Allard has led the most main event laps the past couple of weekend's, but will be searching for his first GSC win of the year on Saturday. The Chico native has been strong in this early season and is coming off a second place finish last weekend that saw him lead the first 26 laps of the feature. The driver of the Williams Motorsports No. 0 tallied a pair of podium finishes in Golden State Challenge Series competition at the Thunderbowl Raceway last year.

San Jose's Tim Kaeding is always a man to beat at the Thunderbowl and it should be no different this weekend. "TK" won a Golden State Challenge Series feature last April at the Thunderbowl and was also runner-up during the May event. The 30 year-old driver of the Roth Motorsports No. 83jr. finished sixth and eighth in the two World of Outlaw events last month and also captured a WOO main event win at the track in February of '07, in addition to winning the Trophy Cup in '06.

13-time King of California Brent Kaeding picked up victory in the Golden State Challenge Series season opener a couple weekends back and will look for his second win of the season this Saturday. The Campbell veteran led all 30 laps last June to score the win at the Pombo/Sargent Classic, which marked his third straight victory in event at the Thunderbowl Raceway. Last Saturday saw Kaeding charge to a fourth place finish in Antioch after starting from the fifth row in the main event.

Other GSC drivers expected to be on hand include Grass Valley's Jason Statler, Elk Grove's Kyle Larson, Scotts Valley's Evan Suggs, Easton's Tommy Tarlton, Placerville's Andy Gregg, Clovis' Peter Murphy, Fresno's Craig Stidham, Fremont's Brent Bjork, Gilroy's Ken Fredenburg and more.

An exciting addition to the schedule this season and competing for the first time ever at the Thunderbowl this weekend will be the wingless warriors of the Bandit 360 Sprint Car Series. The wingless 360's competed at the 1/3 mile clay oval for a couple of seasons dating back to 2005 & 06, but this will be the first time that the races have carried the Bandit sanction.

Headlining the Bandit roster will be Clovis racer Peter Murphy who has dominated the wingless 360 tour over the last couple of seasons while driving the Tarlton & Son Inc. No. 21. Murphy last month had an impressive night with the World of Outlaws at the Thunderbowl Raceway as he won his heat race, the dash and finished ninth in the main event.

Central Valley favorite "Hollywood" Danny Faria Jr. will also be looking to bring home the big money come Saturday as he goes into the night fresh off a runner-up finish in Ventura last Saturday. Other drivers expected include Davey Pombo, Rusty Carlisle, Michael Faccinto, Jonathan Logan, Justine Hamblin and many more.

Returning for a third straight year to the Thunderbowl Raceway are the exciting dirt modifieds of the Western States Modifieds Association. The last couple seasons have seen the championship come down to the final event and last year's title was captured by Brian Cass who narrowly defeated Mike Villanueva and Paul Stone. In 2007 it was much of the same story, except with it being Tim Balding who held off Stone to bring home the inaugural WSM title.

The front gate will open at 5pm this Saturday night with qualifying scheduled for 6 and racing at 7. Reserved grandstand tickets will cost $18 with general admission bleacher seats costing $15. For more info please log onto http://www.thunderbowlraceway.com or call (559) 688-0909.

The Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on the corner of Bardsley and K Streets in Tulare
