Placerville Speedway signs Carl’s Jr. as victory lane contingency sponsor
by Bill Sullivan

PLACERVILLE, CA (04/20/09) --- The officials of ASA Racing Sanctioned Placerville Speedway are proud to announce a new contingency sponsor for the 2009 Red Hawk Casino Championship Series at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. The newest member of the local business community to “give back” to the sport that brings in nearly half a million dollars in local tourism revenue annually is Carl's Jr. of Northern California.

“We’re proud to bring Carl’s junior into our weekly contingency program at Placerville Speedway,” said Bill Sullivan of Handy Racing Promotions. “The racing community brings thousands of dollars to local businesses in this county and this is a perfect example of one of those businesses giving a little bit back to their patrons.”

Starting this Saturday, April 25th, Carl’s Junior will begin sponsoring victory lane at Placerville Speedway, awarding the winner of each division $25 in gift certificates that can be used towards meals for the crew on the way home or on their next trip to the speedway. The new sponsorship was put together by the Placerville Carl’s Jr. restaurant located adjacent to the fairgrounds, however, winnings can be used at any Northern California location. The establishment will remain open until midnight on Saturday nights and hopes to become the “before or after race place” for the racers each week.

“Times are tough for all of us, and I for one know that it’s tough to get sponsorship programs like this,” said Andy Forsberg, a two time sprint car winner this season at Placerville Speedway. Like most racers, Forsberg is operating on a tight budget this season to continue competing with limited sponsorship. “It’s nice to see a business that benefits from a track turn around and give something back to that track, it’s a no brainer because in the end it brings them more business. The racing community believes in supporting those who support us so I encourage everyone to make Carl’s Jr. your stopping spot before or after the races each night and thank them for supporting Placerville Speedway.”

In addition to the new sponsorship, the Placerville Carl’s Junior that is neighbor to the speedway will host am impressive race car display to launch their new partnership this Saturday. This event will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will feature nearly 15 or more of the Nor Cal Dwarf Cars that will be on display. Later in the evening the division will be in competition with the Sprint Cars, Limited Late Models and Pure Stocks at Placerville Speedway for the third championship point race.

The Nor Cal Dwarf Cars are a fan favorite when they visit Placerville Speedway and Saturday the traveling series begins their 2009 Gold and Silver Cup multi track series. Race fans of all ages are encouraged to visit Carl’s Junior for this event and get a close look at these small colorful coupes and meet the drivers who race them who are by far some of the most respected weekend warriors of the sport.

“We’re looking forward to this event and appreciate Placerville Speedway having us participate in this kick off for their new partnership with Carl’s Jr.” said Kevin Bender of the Nor Cal Dwarf Car Association. “We will have a great selection of cars and drivers on hand and will give race fans of all ages a look behind the scenes of what we are all about. Further details on Saturday’s event will be released later in the week; the display at Carl’s Jr. will take place from 10 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m.

Over the season, Carl’s Jr. will become the second highest paying contingency sponsor for Placerville’s weekly Red Hawk Casino Season. Food 4 Less of Cameron Park leads the 2009 Community Contingency Sponsorship program, awarding nearly $3000 dollars in groceries to various drivers and fans throughout the year. The Cold Springs Community Church of Placerville is another returning contributor this season, sponsoring the weekly Hard Luck award as well as select events during the year.

“We’re excited about our new partnership with Carl’s Jr. and look forward to the year to come,” added Sullivan. “We welcome all area businesses that wish to get involved with us. Placerville Speedway is El Dorado County’s only professional spectator sport and we can carry a message to thousands of people during a season here.”

Area businesses wishing to become involved with Placerville Speedway can do so by contacting the track office at (916) 969-7484 or emailing to bsullivan@placervillespeedway.com
