 Press Release

SPRINT CARS, MIDGETS, FIREWORKS AND FUN AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY ON JULY 4TH!

(JUNE 30, 2009, PERRIS, CA) Perris Auto Speedway will have a little something for everyone this Saturday night, July 4th, when KCAL 96.7 Proudly Presents the Budweiser/City of Perris Vroom and Bomb Firecracker 30 featuring the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. In addition to the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, the USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Junior Focus Midgets and the biggest and best fireworks show in Riverside County will all be part of festive holiday program. Spectator gates will open at two hours earlier than normal at 3:00 PM. The first USAC/CRA heat race will begin at 7:00.

Early arriving fans will be treated to fun and games for the kids and the drivers. All of the racecars and the drivers will be by the main spectator gates to sign autographs, pose for photos and greet the fans as they walk into the facility.

Residents of the city of Perris, who show a valid drivers license or ID at the ticket window, can get a general admission ticket for just $5.00 dollars or an assigned seat ticket for just $10.00.

“The July 4th show at The PAS is always more than just a race,” promoter Don Kazarian said from behind his desk on Monday. “We have games and contests where the drivers interact with the kids and the fans. The kids love that. A live band will be performing before the races begin and like usual, we will have a spectacular fireworks sky concert at intermission. And, let's not forget the racing. The drivers always enjoy putting on a big show in front of the July 4th crowd. It is going to be a great night all around.”

Like the weather of late, the racing in the USAC/CRA Series has been hot. Heading into Saturday's race, less than 100 points separates current point leader David Cardey and sixth place driver “Showtime” Danny Sheridan.

Cardey took the point lead two races ago at Santa Maria Speedway. Two weeks ago, the 33-year-old from Riverside swept the show at Petaluma and comes into this Saturday's race with a 31-point lead over Blake Miller of Yorba Linda. Temecula’s Mike Spencer, the defending series champion, is only two points behind Miller in third place. Rounding out the top six are Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach, who currently leads the USAC Western Midget point standings, Visalia’s Greg Bragg and Sheridan, who resides in Santa Maria.

Cardey is the only driver with two victories on the circuit this year. Spencer, Miller and Hansen have one win each. Other winners this year are “Super Rickie” Gaunt of Torrance, Yorba Linda's Matt Mitchell, Riverside's Darren Hagen and Cole Witt of Alpine. Hagen and Witt are both based in Indiana where they contest the USAC National Sprint Car Series.

The Ford Focus Midgets and the Junior Focus Midgets will both be making their second appearance of 2009 at The PAS on Saturday. Jake Swanson, a 16-year-old student at Cypress High School, won the Ford Focus main event on March 28th. Michigan’s Taylor Ferns won the Junior Focus main event on the same night.

Another reminder, spectator gates will open two hours early at 3:00 PM on Saturday. Games and contests begin at 4:00 and the first USAC/CRA race will start at 7:00.

Racing will include qualifying, four ten lap heat races, a B main and 30 lap A main for the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and heats and main events for the Focus and Junior Focus divisions.
