Goodwill Goes Again
By Sharyn Bragg

NCMA Sprints
All American Speedway,Roseville
May 30, 2009

David Goodwill made it win number three tonight on the pavement of All American Speedway. He started a great day of racing by setting fast time. NCMA Sprints have six races scheduled for Roseville this season, and it’s beginning to feel like a comfortable run for the sprints. The weather cooperated with a nice breeze and spirits ran high as they always do with this group of competitive 360, two barrel carb, wingless sprints.
Qualifying sets all the action into play. As previously stated Goodwill in his Lito Auto Body #3G was head man today. Jerry Kobza in his first race of the season was second quick. Last Roseville winner, Rob Hammond was right behind him. Toste Dairy’s favorite driver, Ed Amador turned fourth quick. Jimmy Riddell and Pat Ariaz tied for the fifth fastest.
Heats were run. In the first one, Pat Ariaz, in his Extreme Auto #XX started and finished in the first position. Hale Lumber’s “Hot Rod”Hammond came from the very back to second. Third was the flame red #76 of Amador. Heat #2 had Kobza in his quick Red Line Oil #93 taking the checkers. Tony Taylor and Mike White, both of Fallon, NV claimed second and third. Goodwill was cruising around like he was having a problem and it was later learned the Dave Duncan’s sprinter was laying down some sort of fluid and Goodwill was making a good stab at keeping his car under control.
Ed Amador was winner of the Trophy Dash but was tested several times in the four laps. Hammond and Kobza did a little nipping at him and each other. Goodwill was saving it for the Main Event.
With 35 laps ahead of them, Denny Burrell’s Body Shop Supply Sprinter and Burt Siverling in his Don Hicks Racing Engines #77 started first and second. Jeff Burrows, with thanks to Phil and Kate, and Ariaz made up the second row and Amador started fifth. Siverling jumped to the front and led several laps. Ariaz was on a mission and picked up the lead with Goodwill close behind. The next thing fans could see was Ariaz facing the rest of the pack but none the worse for wear. This left Goodwill in the lead with Amador right behind him. Burrows, Hammond and Kobza heading up the top five at ten laps in. Hammond got a little help from behind and brought out the second caution of the feature as he ended his night in the front wall. During the next twenty plus laps, Goodwill put several car lengths between himself and Amador. Burrows and Kobza were duking it out for third with Kobza coming out on top. After fighting his way from the back Ariaz got around Burrows for fourth and Burrows ended his night in fifth. Of special note: Normally Gary Koster is right in the foray and unfortunately he lost power during hot laps. NCMA Sprints thank Tony Taylor and Mike White for making the tow from Fallon, NV. They took their cars home in one piece and didn’t create any problems for being pavement rookies! Also thanks to Dave Duncan driving E.J. Dolner’s sprinter.
NCMA Sprints will return to the Dirt Select Series with their first run of the season at Chowchilla Speedway. Please check NCMASprints.com or the Chowchilla website for further information.
