KJ Motorsports Scores 2 Wins
Keith Butler Takes the Feature and Amanda Ferguson Gets a Heat Race Victory
MAY 3, 2009 --- This weekend the KJ Motorsports Team continued their asphalt season by competing in a Checkered Flag Sprint Series sanctioned race at Charlotte County Motorsports Park in Punta Gorda, FL.

After the last race at Citrus County Speedway where some of the bugs were worked out of Amanda's #20 car, the team decided to show up to Charlotte County a little early and get some extra practice. The extra time in the car was well worth it for Amanda. With a solid platform beneath her, Amanda was now able to drive the car in any groove and use all of the power that her engine has to give.

A total of 17 cars showed up for the Checkered Flag Sprint Series event. The 17 cars were broken up into 2 heat races. Keith was in the first heat and started 7th. The heat was started with Geoff Styner on the pole and Stan Butler (Keith's Father) sitting outside pole. Stan beat Geoff into turn one to take the lead. Keith carefully made his way through the field from 7th to 3rd place. As the checkered flag was coming out on the heat Keith had caught Stan and Mark Gimmler running first and second. Keith settled for 3rd.

Amanda was in the second heat and started on the outside pole, while Jason Bradford started inside of her. The green flag dropped and Amanda made her move to beat Jason into turn one. Amanda drove into the corner and made it stick. She was leading and the field was sorting itself behind her. The only challenge that Amanda felt in the heat race was from Scott Adema who had caught her but could not make the pass around her. Amanda won the heat for her fist heat race win in the Checkered Flag Sprint Series.

Between the heat and the feature, the KJ Motorsports crew worked on both cars to get them ready for the feature. Keith's car needed a little more cross-weight, an air pressure adjustment and a stagger change. Amanda's car needed to be loosened up a little. With all these changes made, the cars were ready to roll out for a quick autograph session on the frontstretch before the feature.

All 17 cars were able to make it out for the start of the 30 lap feature race. As the cars lined up, Jason Bradford and Mike Koss made up the front row. Keith started the race in 9th and Amanda started in the 3rd position. On the start of the race, Amanda saw an opportunity and executed a great pass on the pole sitter. From past experience, Amanda knew that Jason was not going to get a great start. As the green flag flew, Amanda shot to bottom and they were 3 wide as they entered turn one. As Amanda was passing Jason on the bottom, Mike Koss and Stan Butler were passing him on the top. As the pass was completed Amanda was third behind Mike and Stan. Keith from the start was picking his way to the front. He was staying on the bottom and passing cars as they came to him. By lap 6 he had made his way to second and was on Stan's tail tank. On lap 9, Amanda got loose and another car made contact with her spinning her around. The caution came out.

After getting re-fired, Amanda rejoined the field at the rear which placed her in the 13th position. Keith was still in 2nd and determined to get around Stan. On the restart, Amanda wanted to make her way back through the field. It took Keith a lap or two after the restart, but he finally got by Stan passing him low on the frontstretch. After getting by Stan, Keith set sail and ran out to full straightaway lead. The rest of the race ran caution free. Keith won the race with a substantial lead. Amanda made her way back to the 8th finishing position.

This is Keith's fifth win of the season. Keith is the Checkered Flag Sprint Series point's leader.

KJ Motorsports will next compete, with the Checkered Flag Sprint Series race on June 6th at the New Smyrna Speedway in Samsula, FL.
