NEW WEBSITE ADDRESS and WINGLESS SPRINT CHANGES
By Troy Hennig, HRP Media Relations

CHICO, CA – It is no secret that Alan Padjen is ready to get the 2009 racing season started. The last three days, Padjen, has been sitting inside his kingdom circling the quarter-mile clay oval speedway in Chico. “This is my love,” Padjen said. “Riding around in my grader and working on the track.” It is a sight that people will be seeing a lot more of at Silver Dollar Speedway in the coming years. Alan is taking control of the family business, John Padjen Motorsports, and with that comes two race tracks and two traveling sprint car series. “My parents have provided the building blocks, now it's my turn to ensure that their 30 years of hard work is all for not,” said Padjen. “I am excited to bring my new idea's and expand on what John Padjen Motorsports has meant to the racing community.”

The first change Alan is bringing is a new name. Handy Racing Promotions will be the new name associated with Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Placerville Speedway in Placerville and the Golden State King of California and Civil War Series. “It's a big undertaking but I am ready to do it,” said Padjen. “I've had all these thoughts and ideas for the last 20 years about what I would like to do to continue the success my parents have started.”

With the name change comes a new website address. Media, drivers and fans will need to type in www.handyracingpromotions.com to get their latest news concerning the tracks and the different series. “In a few weeks we will have individual web domain names for each track and series,” said Padjen. For now, the best way to get information is through the above noted web address.

“It's going to be a transition for everyone involved,” said Padjen. “My dad is in the Sprint Car Hall of Fame so of course I am going to listen to him and hear his advice. My mom has been right by my dad's side since the early seventies when they started promoting West Capitol Speedway.” Alan added, “I've got my own idea's but I'm not going to completely change what has worked for the past 30 years. I just want to tweak it a bit.”

One of the first changes this year will be in the Wingless Sprint division. In the prior years, the Padjen's have tried to race this group as a series between the two tracks of Chico and Placerville. This year, they will be separate when it comes to a points championship. “We are going to allow drivers to compete for a Chico track championship this year without having to travel to Placerville,” said Padjen. “We will still have the Placerville non-wing races but there will not be any points on the line.” He continued by saying, “After listening to some of the teams express displeasure with the traveling we decided it's in their and our best interest not to count the Placerville races this year in the championship.”
