“BORDER WARS XIV” AT WINCHESTER, SHADY BOWL & ELDORA;
16-YEAR OLDS WHITT & BOAT TAKE EASTERN RACES;
RAIN HALTS GRANDVIEW & “THE GROVE”

JUNE 9, 2008 --- “Border Wars XIV” opens Thursday night at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway and continues Friday at Shady Bowl Speedway in DeGraff, Ohio, then concludes Saturday at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The three-race slate should test both youngsters and veterans alike, offering valuable points toward the 2008 National Sprint Car Championship.

Jon Stanbrough won last year’s “Border Wars” title while Tracy Hines will try to match Brian Tyler’s record of four championships. Hines won the 1999, 2002 and 2003 titles. Jerry Coons Jr., who was the 2006 “Border Wars” king, is also expected to compete for the 2008 championship.

Cole Whitt of Alpine, Calif. leads the 2008 National standings after becoming the youngest USAC Sprint winner ever on dirt last Thursday night at Minersville, Pa. That record lasted only until Saturday when Chad Boat of Phoenix, Ariz. became the youngest USAC Sprint race winner ever at Hagerstown, Md. Boat’s winning age was 16 years, four months, seven days, compared to Bryan Clauson, who was 16 years, 10 months, seven days when he won at Winchester, Ind. in 2006.

Boat won Saturday’s 30-lap Eastern Tour finale at Hagerstown Speedway. The son of Indianapolis 500 veteran Billy Boat, Chad led the final 22 laps of the race in his R-S Service/Billy Boat Performance Exhaust Maxim/Chevy to beat Whitt, Coons, Robert Ballou and Damion Gardner.

Whitt earned his first USAC feature victory Thursday night at Big Diamond Raceway, leading all 30 laps to win the USAC National Sprint car race over defending series champion and point leader Levi Jones, Dave Darland, Gardner and Coons. Whitt piloted the Keith Kunz Motorsports Red Bull/Ferguson Bullet/Brannan Chevy.

Rain halted Tuesday night’s Eastern Tour opener at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., just as the feature was ready to start. Wednesday night’s race at the Williams Grove (Pa.) Speedway also fell victim to rain. Both tracks are looking forward to returning on the USAC calendar in 2009.
