 Press Release

SPRINT CAR POINT LEADERS TO BATTLE AND KIDS FREE AT PERRIS THIS SATURDAY!

(JUNE 17, 2008, PERRIS, CA) Mike Spencer, the point leader in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series and Tony Jones, who leads the Perris Auto Speedway People’s Championship Fund Series, will lock horns when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the PASSCAR Modifieds at Don Kazarian’s famous Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, June 21st.

Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00. All kids 12 and under will be admitted free as part of the track’s annual Kid’s Month and they will all be eligible to win a free bicycle courtesy of Gardner Motorsports. Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply will be giving one lucky fan in the stands and another person in the pit’s a $25.00 gas card to help in these times of high gas prices.

Spencer, a 26-year Cal Poly Pomona engineering graduate who lives in Temecula, California, took the point lead from Ventura, California’s Cory Kruseman with a second place finish last Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway. Seeking his first ever Sprint Car championship and the 10th for car owner Ron Chaffin, Spencer chased Norco, California’s Tyler Brown to the checkered flag. For Brown, a 23 year-old who first competed at The PAS in the Winged California Lightning Sprint Cars, it was his first ever USAC/CRA win.

Heading into this week’s race at the popular Riverside County clay oval, Spencer holds a 53 point lead over Kruseman in the standings. Kruseman, a two-time Budweiser Oval Nationals winner at The PAS and the 2006 USAC/CRA champion, missed last Saturday’s race at Santa Maria while vacationing with his family.

Jones, a never short of words 38 year-old star, from Norco, California, won the 2007 USAC/CRA championship, but is not contesting the entire series this year. However, “The Open Wheel Cowboy” is competing in all of the races at The PAS and leads Kruseman by 26-points in the People’s Championship Fund Series. This week People’s Series will pay double points. The fund currently stands at $4,292.00.

When the series last appeared at The PAS two weeks ago, Torrance, California’s “Super” Rickie Gaunt scored a popular win in the rough and tumble 30-lap main event. For the 2004 SCRA champion it was his first win in over two years. That win, along with Brown’s triumph last Saturday at Santa Maria, gives the Gardner Motorsports team a two race victory streak in the tough USAC/CRA Series.

Only two drivers, Kruseman and “Showtime” Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria, California, have scored more than one win in the first eight races at The PAS this year. Kruseman has three victories and Sheridan has two. Gaunt, Spencer and Elk Grove, California racer Johnny Rodriguez have one win each.

Riverside’s Johnny Lathrop, a longtime ago Figure 8 champion at the Corona Raceway and the Orange Show Speedway, has a five-point lead in the PASSCAR Modified standings over Hemet’s Kevin Busher heading into Saturday’s race. Two-time IMCA State champion Clay Daly of Watsonville, who won the last Modified race at The PAS, is third.

Saturday’s street brawl in the dirt will include qualifying, ten lap heat races, a 12-lap B main event and a slide job festooned 30-lap A main event for the sprint cars. The Modifieds will contest heats and a 20-lap main event. And, for the kids, there will be a Big Wheel heat race during one of the breaks in the action and, of course, the popular PAS Dance Contest at intermission.
