Myers Brothers Racing bring home top 5’s during weekend
By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – July 21, 2008…Competing in a back-to-back event for the third weekend in a row the Myers Brothers Racing Team had a consistent outing and ran up in the top five both nights. The previous week had seen a lower than usual car count at both Silver Dollar Speedway and Placerville Speedway, but this week both tracks gained a few more drivers to make for a little more fun.

The third straight John Padjen Motorsports Wingless Sprint Car double-header weekend kicked off on Friday night in Chico with a field of 20 cars on hand. Both Myers Brothers were part of the first heat race and it saw Cody line-up on the outside of the front row with Mason back in the fourth row.

The heat race didn’t go how Mason would have liked however, as he got upside down in it and the Performance Auto Supply, Cal West Concrete No. 3m was placed 10th in the rundown. Cody dropped one spot in the eight lap contest to finish in third and put him sixth in the night’s points going into the main event. When the number zero pill was drawn for the feature it then put him on the outside of the third row and after getting repairs made to the car Mason started from the 17th position.

Following a red flag period on the opening lap due to a flip by pole sitter Darrell Hanestad, everyone regrouped and was ready to go at it. Cody went on to run a smooth and smart main event to finish in the third spot aboard the Franks Backhoe Inc, Joe Hunt Magnetos No. 9. Mason battled it out during the feature, but dropped out on the final lap and finished in the 14th spot.

Saturday found the Myers Brothers Racing Team in action at the high-banked red-clay bullring of Placerville Speedway for the second weekend in a row. Last week had seen the team bring home finishes of second and third in the main event and looked forward to trying to duplicate that feat once again.

The evening started out strong as Mason picked up the victory in the opening heat race with brother Cody finishing directly behind him in second. The heat race finishes put Myers Brothers Racing on the front row of the 15 car wingless spec sprint main event and after 20 laps of racing, Cody crossed underneath the checkered flag in third with Mason in fourth to cap off a good night of action at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds track.

This coming Friday night will see the Myers Brothers Racing Team in competition at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico as the wingless sprints will run in conjunction with the Golden State Challenge Winged Sprint Car Series. Going into the night Mason continues to rank third in the standings with Cody right behind in fourth, while both are still searching for that first win of the season.
