Allard, Hirst and Olschowka Winners at Chico
by: Troy Hennig

(Chico, CA 7-11-08)...Chico's Jonathan Allard won his second 410 sprint car main event of the season during the Feather Falls Casino Friday night championship series. Allard, started in row four and took over the lead on lap 16. Even though Allard was the winner, fans had to be impressed with Destiney Hays of Oroville. Hays made her return to her home track after nearly a two-year lay off and did not disappoint. She started on the front row and led the first 15 laps until she was passed by Allard and ultimately suffered front end damage from other passing cars and had to pull to the infield. Kyle Hirst was the winner in the wingless main event. Jeff Olschowka won an action packed street stock main event. The night was sponsored by Moore Insurance and Financial Services, Inc. and Scrubs Car Wash of Chico. Racing will continue on Saturday night with the King of California Golden State Series along with the dirt modifieds.

Brad Bumgarner took the lead on the first attempt of a green flag start in the 410 sprint main event. However, the start was halted when Sean Becker drifted off turn two and brought out the yellow. Becker restarted in the rear and survived the night to work his way back up to a fourth place finish. On the second attempt Hays was the leader. Hays went on to lead the first 15 laps in amazing fashion. Hays was quick but even she admitted she was a little rusty getting though lapped traffic. Hays saw her lead evaporate and soon she was battling Allard for the lead. Allard kept trying the top side but did not find enough room up there to make the pass happen. Yet, coming out of turn two Hays struggled with a slower car while Allard moved to the top. He passed Hays for the lead. It seemed Hays slowed just a bit when Allard passed her and this allowed the third and fourth place car to close. There was contact and before you knew it Hays had a crumpled front end and drifted into the infield. The yellow came out and she was done for the night. On the restart Matt Shelton drifted off turn one and went to the pit area. He had been running up in the third spot. Then it was Mark Hall's turn to have bad luck. Hall was second but coming out of turn two his motor went up in smoke and he pulled off. The final caution flew for Andy Forsberg who blew out his left rear tire with five laps to go. Up front it was all about Allard. He calmly led the final few laps and secured the popular win. Brett Miller had his best run of the year and finished second. Kevin Sharrah also had a great finish. He battled Miller for second but settled for third at the finish. Becker finished fourth while Dan Simpson had a season best fifth place finish.

Doug Butterfield took the early lead of the wingless sprint 20-lap main event. Butterfield had a solid car and a comfortable lead for the first few laps. Kyle Hirst, who started third, soon moved in on Butterfield for the lead. Hirst made his move and took the lead. Butterfield hung in as long as he could but soon it was evident that Hirst was the car to beat. Travis Moore tried to battle Butterfield for second. Moore moved in a few times but was never able to make the move around Butterfield. Moore stayed in the third spot for another solid finish. Butterfield held strong to come across the finish line in second. Keith Bloom Jr. moved up from his eighth starting spot and moved into fourth. Mason Myers rounded out the top five with another consistent finish.

The street stock main event started with Steve Hammett as the early leader. Yet, soon Heather Bartlett became the story of the race. Bartlett slowed going into turn one and came to a stop. The yellow was waived and she was pushed back to the pit area. The officials gave her crew time to get her back to the track but the repairs did not happen. The race resumed with the point leader, Bartlett in the pits. Jeff Olschowka moved into second and battled Hammett for the lead. Hammett held strong but in lapped traffic it was the veteran, Olschowka, passing Hammett on the front stretch. The yellow came out the next time by and the race was halted. Olschowka restarted the race as the leader. Olschowka did not give back the lead and went on to win his first main event of the year. Hammett finished in the second spot. Scott Rogers came home in third and should regain the point lead back from Bartlett. Kevin Ward finished fourth followed by Richard Workman.

Olschowka won the first eight lap heat race for the street stocks. Jake Vantol led all eight laps to win the second heat race.

Jimmy Pettit and Travis Moore each scored the wins during the eight lap wingless heat racing action.

Brett Miller, Danny Ochs and Sean Becker each won their heat races. Jonathan Allard started the night by turning the quickest lap at a 12.062. It was his fifth quick time award of the season.
