Another Two Nights of Racing This Weekend at Chico
by Troy Hennig

(Chico, CA 7-07-08)...After a busy July 4th weekend of racing another two day show is scheduled this Friday and Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Both nights will feature the 410-winged sprint cars. On Friday night we will host points race #15 for the Feather Falls Casino Championship Series. Joining the 410 sprints that night will be the Street Stocks and wingless sprints. On the following night, July 12, the King of California Golden State Series returns for their point race #18. This series competed at the track last Saturday night with 37 sprint cars in attendance. Joining the racing on Saturday will be the dirt modifieds. On Friday night Moore Insurance and Financial Inc. will sponsor the night of racing. The 410-sprint cars will once again race for a $2,000 prize for winning. On Saturday night, Fast Trak Wings will add extra prize money and bonus products to the top finishing 410 sprint drivers in the main event.

The front grandstand gate will open at 6:00 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm. Adult general admission is $11.00, junior and seniors are $9.00 and children are $5.00.

Saturday night front gate will open at 5:00 pm with racing to kick off around 6:30 pm. Adult general admission is $16.00, Juniors $11.00 and children $5.00.

Mason Moore is just 17-years old and already considered one of the best talents at Silver Dollar Speedway. Last year's rookie of the year in the winged 410-sprints hasn't suffered through a sophomore slump. If anything, he is having a tremendous year. He won the Bill Brownell Memorial to kick off this year at Chico, winning the $3,000 pay day. He currently sits third in the Feather Falls Casino Friday night points. The only two above Moore are Andy Forsberg and Sean Becker, both former track champions with years of sprint car experience. Moore is also a three sport athlete at his high school in Princeton. He plans on playing football for his upcoming senior year and it might interfere with some racing in September. “He thinks he will have the time to do both,” said father Garth Moore. “He is such a focused kid and good at all things he tries. I couldn't be happier with how things are going with racing and his sports.” Mason drives the family owned Moore Insurance and Financial Inc. #22.

It was announced on Saturday night during a live interview from the race track that Oroville driver Destiny Hays will return to sprint car racing this Friday and Saturday night. Hays has signed a deal with Dan Simpson Racing to drive a second team car for his operation. Hays will use the number 8b in tribute to her deceased grandfather, Bill Owens, who was very instrumental in her driving career. “I am so excited to race with a great team,” said Hays during her interview at the races on Saturday night. “I am also proud to use my grandpa's number. Dan is a very awesome guy and we are both really excited about becoming a two car team for the rest of the season.” Hays' last full season at Silver Dollar Speedway was in 2003. That year she finished fifth on the 410 winged sprint car points.

Chico's Heather Bartlett is the new point leader in the street stock division. Bartlett holds a three point lead over Scott Rogers of Redding. Rogers has seen his point lead evaporate because of two back to back weeks of engine failure. Making it a three car battle is Jeff Olschowka of Marysville. He has fought his way back into the championship and is only seven points behind Bartlett.

After two nights of racing, Anderson's Keith Bloom Jr. still holds a 40-point lead over Orland's Taylor Simas. The Myers Brothers are still in the mix. Cody sits in third while brother Mason is fourth. Both drivers are from Browns Valley near Grass Valley. Chico's Jimmy Pettit finished in the top five of the two main events this past weekend and holds down the fifth spot.

Chico's Jonathan Allard continues to lead the King of California point standings. He finished second in the main event on the previous Saturday night at Chico. He holds a 49-point advantage over Los Angeles driver Tyler Walker. Walker finished in the seventh position. San Jose driver Bud Kaeding is currently third in the points. He finished fourth in the main event and gained a few points on Walker for second. Sacramento's Mike Henry is holding down the fourth slot in the points while Scott's Valley driver Evan Suggs is fifth.

During this night of racing Fast Trak Wings, a HRP distributer, will be giving away a new top wing to the main event winner. Second place in the main event will receive a free HRP front axle. Third spot in the main will receive a free HRP nose wing. Drivers finishing fourth through eighth will also receive an extra $100 each. Call 530-218-4533 and ask for Larry to find out more about Fast Trak Wings and HRP products.

A reminder to all drivers and fans attending the races this weekend. The Silver Dollar Fairgrounds is still being used as a home base for the fire fighters. Once again we need everyone to come through the Costco side gate for grandstand and pit entrance. The road to turn on is Dr. Martin Luther King Parkway, then turn onto Silver Dollar Way. Camping options and hotel accommodation's will also be listed on our website www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com
