See You At The Races!!!

 Press Release

You Win Some And You Lose Some!
by Gary Costa
Bakersfield, CA – May 16, 2007…After winning at Hanford’s 3/8 mile the week prior, we towed into Bakersfield Speedway with high hopes and expectations for SCRA Sprint car race #7.

Sitting second in points, Peter took the pristine Tarlton & Son, Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Ridgeline Framing, Sharp Insurance, VMAC, BR Motorsports. Matt & Glass #21 Maxim to a 5th quick in qualifications. Then in Kaeding Performance/Keizer Wheels Heat #2 action-Peter went on his way and picked up the win.

The car was a rocket every time it touched the racing surface. Peter proved the heat race win was no fluke and backed it up by winning the 6-lap Riddell Enterprises Dash.

Peter took the term literally “When the green flag drops, the bullshit stops!” to an entirely different level. The car was a rocket and Peter was rapidly distancing himself from the field. However the green flag was replaced with the yellow on lap-17. Heartbreak struck as we were idling around the race track. The left rear went down, and into the pits we went. 13-laps later, we crossed under the checkered flag in the 6th spot.

All of us at Peter Murphy Motorsports would like to congratulate Davey Pombo on his win. We make no excuses, and understand that “things” can and will occur anytime in our sport. Congrats again to the whole Pombo team.

Pete, the car was really fast, but it was just one of them “deals”: Yeah it definitely was. It was a shame really, because the car was so fast all night long. In the main event, when we were idling around the track, Davey pulled up beside me and told me that the tire was flat. When I came in the pits Anthony Pombo and some of Rusty Carlile’s guys and other crew members, pointed to where the work area was. It just shows the camaraderie that’s in the SCRA. We went back out, and we didn’t get the end result we wanted, but as Harlan Willis has said to me, “we may not have finished where we wanted, but we raced well and that’s important.”

What’s On Tap! This weekend Peter takes a break from his “No Wing’s, No Worries Tour” and travels up to Skagit, Washington. Peter will be under a wing driving the M&S Motorsports 410 beauty.

Check Out! All of us at Peter Murphy Motorsports would like to thank M&S Motorsports for the opportunity to drive for them. Be sure to Check Out! The nice page that Brian Simonseth from H2H photo has put together www.freewebs.com/h2hpictures/msracing.htm

Question of the Week! Sprint car driver Richard Brace, Jr. asks; “How do you deal with the loss of confidence, and how do you get it back?”

Peter Answers! “That’s a real good question. You can start doubting yourself real easy. I’ve got friends I can call, whether it’s Brooke Tatnell or whoever. Steve Kinser once said that it’s 60% mental. If you lose confidence you’re in trouble. Confidence is a very hard thing to get and a real easy thing to lose. You’ve got to just push through it. When you’ve got it, it feels like you can walk on water. But yeah, I would say it’s real important to have someone you can call and talk with.

As always, we will catch you at the races, and be sure to send questions or comments regarding Peter or the team to Gary Costa @ gary_costa1@yahoo.com
