THREE FORMER WINNERS ENTER BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS!
(SEPTEMBER 17, 2007, PERRIS, CA) Former winners Rip Williams, Tony Jones and “Super” Rickie Gaunt are among the latest entries for the 12th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals, presented by Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply, at Perris Auto Speedway on November 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Williams, the 51-year old driving legend from Yorba Linda, California, won the Oval Nationals in 1997. Torrance, California’s Gaunt won it in 1999 and Jones, the current Lucas Oil USAC/CRA point leader who resides in Norco, California, bagged the gold in 2000 and nearly won it again in 2001.

Gaunt’s entry arrived with four others from the Gardner Motorsports office. He will be teammates with Norco, California’s Nadine Gardner and former VRA champion and 2006 Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year “The Bullet” Blake Miller. Miller, like Williams, makes his home in Yorba Linda. The other two entries from the Gardner Motorsports stable have not been named, but a rumor swirling around lists Brad Noffsinger, the 1986 & 1987 CRA Champion and former NASCAR driver during the Winston Cup years, as a strong candidate for one of the cars.

Other recent entries include Josh Ford, runner-up to Cory Kruseman in the 2004 Oval Nationals and a former USAC National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year to boot. Ford is part of a two car team entered by his father Keith Ford. The driver of the other car will be named later. Former California Lightning Sprint Car champion “Dynamite” David Cardey of Riverside, California, who has won the last two main events at The PAS, also turned his entry in recently. Ojai, California’s Greg Taylor, one of the all-time leading VRA drivers, has entered as well.

Rounding out the list of recent entries is a pair of talented youngsters. Chris Windom, of Canton, Illinois and Robert Ballou of Rocklin, California. In 2006 Windom, who will not celebrate his 17th birthday until Christmas Eve, became the third youngest champion in USAC history when he won the Kenyon Midget championship. Windom is currently ranked 15th in USAC National Sprint Car points and 12th in the USAC National Midget standings. Ballou, who also goes by the moniker of the “Rocklin Rocket,” is 18 years old and was co-Champion of the Sprint Bandits TNT Midwest Swing along with Tim Keading. Ballou is currently 16th in USAC National Sprint car points.

The Oval Nationals will encompass six days of fun and racing in 2007. On Tuesday afternoon, October 30th, the 2nd Annual Oval Nationals Golf Classic will take place at the Moreno Valley Ranch Golf Course followed that evening by the Golf Tournament Banquet. On Wednesday night October 31st, there will be a practice session open to all Oval Nationals entered cars and it will be free for the fans in the grandstands. The first night of the racing will be Thursday, November 1st and it will feature qualifying for all cars followed by heats, semi mains and an A main. Friday November 2nd will feature the same wild program as Thursday. During the daytime on Saturday, November 5th, the Annual Pick-a-Part $1,000.00 to win Cornhole (bean bag) Tournament will be held. Saturday night will feature the main events including the $30,000.00 to win A main. The week will conclude with the Cory Kruseman Sprint Car Driving School on Sunday, November 6th.
