PHOENIX, Ariz. (September 29, 2007) – Jeremy Sherman racked up his eleventh American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region feature victory of the season by winning Saturday night's 30-lap Buddy Taylor Memorial feature event atop Manzanita Speedway's ½-mile clay oval.
The victory marked Sherman's fourth Buddy Taylor Memorial triumph in the past five years, as he beat defending race winner Charles Davis, Jr., to the stripe.
With Davis and Sherman starting from the fourth and fifth positions in the feature, it was front row outside starter Chris Bonneau outgunning polesitter Brandon Lane for the lead at the drop of the green flag.
Bonneau led half the distance in pursuit of his first ASCS Canyon Region before bicycling through a corner, allowing both Sherman and Davis to charge by. Sherman fought off Davis the rest of the way to secure the victory aboard Fred Bryan's Wesmar-powered F&E Development No. 77 Maxim.
Davis was second, with Bonneau taking show honors. Jeff Henry netted a fourth place finish in his first ASCS Canyon Region start since being injured in a July 3 incident, with Shon Deskins rounding out the top five.
Bill Rose crossed the stripe sixth in his first ASCS Canyon Region start of the year, with Matt Rossi earning Hard Charger honors by racing from 23rd to seventh. Bob Ream, Jr., was eighth, with Mike Leslie and Andrew Reinbold completing the top ten.
Davis, Sherman, Josh Pelkey and Rose topped heat race action for the 31-car field, with rookie contender Nick Aiuto winning the "B" Main.
Chad Boat was unable to make the call for the main event after being involved in a tangle with Rossi after the checkered flag flew upon the "B" Main.
