by Eldon Butcher

November 7, 2005...Sam Stockon, the founder and previous owner of the Midwest Sprint Car Series, has announced that the 2005 points fund checks were mailed out to all eligible drivers on November 1st. Checks placed in the mail cover awards for both the MSCS Season Points Chase and the special "Route 41 Shootout."

The top money winner was Alex Shanks of Marion, Illinois. Shanks took top honors in both point pursuits. The 31 year old MSCS veteran drove for Jerry Baker, who owns and fields the Baker Auto and Truck Salvage Sprinter. Shanks raced a Stealth Chassis powered by a Cummins Race Engine.

Jerry Ruble of Vincennes, Indiana, also had an outstanding year. Ruble was second in the MSCS overall series' points and third in the Route 41 Shootout. Ten of his 13 years behind the wheel have been in the seat of a sprint car. Jerry was also presented with the "Driver's Sportsmanship Award." In addition Ruble received a Hoosier Racing Tire jacket for his 100% participation in the series. Nelson Ruble, Jerry's father, was selected as the Top MSCS Crew Chief for 2005.

Chase Stockon of Sullivan, Indiana, completed another successful season campaign by placing third in MSCS Points and close second in the Route 41 Shootout. The 17 year old driver also won the Hard Charger Award for 2005 by gaining the most spots in the feature events during the race programs each night of the season. Chase also received a Hoosier Racing Tire jacket for his 100% participation.

Gary Hayden of Coatesville, Indiana, received the coveted 2005 MSVS Rookie of the Year Award which was sponsored by Engler Machine and Tool. The former super stock and modified driver turned his first season in the sprints into a 4th place overall finish in the points. Hayden will also receive a jacket courtesy of Hoosier tire for 100% participation.

In addition arrangements have been made for Alex Shanks, Chase Stockon, and Gary Hayden to receive their trophies and plaques when they are honored at the annual HARF Banquet in Indianapolis on January 22nd. Bell Helmets and equipment will give contingency certificates to those points awards winners that displayed their decals on their sprinters.
