PLACERVILLE, CA (5-13-06) - Saturday night was the first appearance of
the Hunt Magnetos Wingless Sprint Cars. A total of 24 cars turned out for the
event and it was Antioch’s Bob Newberry taking the checkers at the end of the
night. Newberry started the feature event from the front row.
At the checkered flag Newberry was followed by Steve Stein who pulled beside
the leader multiple times during the race. Dennis Fraser finished in third
followed by Jay Youngman and Danny Olmstead. Herman Klein crossed the line in
fifth in the event after driving from ninth but was disqualified by track
officials for not meeting weight requirements.
The wingless sprints will return this Saturday at Placerville Speedway for a
night that promises improved track conditions. They will be joined by the
Pacific Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks for the third championship point
race.
