April 28, 2006...Oakley driver Bob Newberry wins the 20-lap wingless
sprint main event Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. Newberry bested a
strong field of 35 cars in this exciting and close-knit division. Newberry
started on the outside of row two but quickly assumed the role of leader when he
passed Matt Streeter. Danny Olmstead drove a solid race to finish third.
Olmstead is one of the top wingless sprint drivers in Northern California. Dave
Hays Jr. of Rio Vista finished in the fourth spot. The top finishing local
driver was Don Emery of Chico. Emery came across the line in fifth.
Hays Jr. won the Nor Cal Performance heat one. Olmstead led all eight to win
heat race two. Chico’s Jimmy Pettit led all eight laps to win heat race three.
Paradise youngster Justin Funkhouser showed brilliance in wining heat four.
Darrell Hanestad won the 12 lap B main event for the wingless sprint
division. He was followed by Ralph Cortez, last year’s point champion, Josh
Tucker and Doug Butterfield.
