DAMION GARDNER WINS PERRIS 30 LAP

Perris, CA – February 5 - Damion “the Demon” Gardner, from Concord, California, won the first race of the Valvoline USAC/CRA sprint cars series at Perris Auto Speedway this week. Driving the Chaffin/TemeulaValley Pipe & Supply – Arizona Race Mart/ Eagle/ Shaver number 50, he held off a strong late race challenge by defending champ Rip Williams. Later in victory circle Damion said “I waited on the bottom for anyone, daring them to go around me. When Rip showed me a wheel, I just went back up top and drove away”. Damion set fast time on the night at 16.087 and won the very first Snap-on Tool Trophy Dash showing off a wild wheelstand in the process. The Ripper, who was going for his 100th win, ended up a close second and was followed by Mike Kirby, Bill Rose and Seth Wilson with 47 cars qualifying. The beautiful day wasn’t with out trouble as Tracy Hines,
Rickie Gaunt and Danny Sheridan got together on lap eight, putting them all out.
Then two laps later Mike Spencer took a wild ride down the front stretch into
the wall ending his night. He later took a trip to the hospital for a good check
up, but is fine. Tony Jones also crashed on the last lap. Seth Wilson had his highest finish ever with CRA in fifth place and was the hard charger of the night passing his number, a total of 17 cars.
