NOVEMBER 15, 2004...USAC Valvoline Western Sprint Car Champions Tony Hunt
of Fair Oaks, Calif. and Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. will race Saturday
night in Tucson, Ariz. with the 2004 series point lead on the line. Hunt, who won the title in 2001, leads defending series titlist Lewis by 21 points with 74 available at the 3/8-mile paved Tucson Raceway Park oval. A 40-lap Sprint car feature is part of the "Old Pueblo Classic" doubleheader, which includes the USAC National/Western Midgets also competing in a 40-lapper. Third-ranking Brad Bumgarner, who led the series standings from May through July, also remains in contention for the 2004 series championship, 81 behind Hunt going into the final two events. The series concludes November 25 at Irwindale, Calif. Both Hunt and Lewis met with less than acceptable results when the series visited Tucson in June. Lewis, the fastest qualifier, finished sixth, while Hunt, the second fastest qualifier, crashed during his heat race and did not start the main event! Bumgarner, who could be the spoiler in the title chase, won the June 12 Tucson feature! Practice at TRP starts at 1 pm and racing gets under way at 5.
